CURRENT STUDIES

Below are a list of CANdiLab studies that are actively recruiting participants. Clicking on each study will take you to a study-specific registration page, where you will receive additional details regarding the study, as well as a series of questions to determine study eligibility. Please note that while we welcome all volunteers, we sometimes have specific inclusion criteria that we must adhere to.

Study 1: The Expression and Interpretation of Emotional Events

This study is actively recruiting both male and female participants into a study aimed at better understanding the brain systems underlying the processing of emotional information. Participants will perform a variety of personality questionnaires, and will be administered an MRI while they watch emotionally-laden videos.

Time commitment: Approximately 4 hours

Compensation: $30/hr

Special requirements: There are no known risks associated with MRI (which is the same type of MRI you would receive on your knee, or elbow, or wrist); however, as MRI involves magnets, individuals who have metal implants, or who have come in contact with certain types of metal (ie. works in a metal shop) may not be able to participate. Pregnant women are also excluded, as the impact of MRI on the fetus remains unknown.

Study 2: Can People Increase the Amount They Care?

In this study, participants will undergo an MRI while they are asked to try to increase the amount that they care about other people shown in painful situations. We are interested in evaluating the extent to which this increased caring leads to differences in brain activity – evidence of such differences may lead to future work aimed at facilitating increased caring in individuals who tend to care less.

Time commitment: Approximately 4 hours

This project will begin recruitment in April 2016.
